DRM Solution

The Digital Rights Management (DRM) Solution safeguards your intellectual properties and copyrights. It provides protection for both online and offline content distribution of your copyrighted materials.

The DRM solution consists of the DRM server software which helps control your readers' access rights to the FlipBooks you have created. You can configure such rights to decide, for example, who can read or print the FlipBook.

The DRM server stores your FlipBook licenses, FlipBook rights and reader subscription lists in a database. These information are used to safeguard your copyrighted FlipBook content.

DRM Server

The DRM Server has the following main functions:

•   A FlipBook Registration and Management module (web application) is provided for publishers to manually register FlipBook licenses, manage readers' rights and subscriptions.

•   DRM Server authenticates readers and issues reader licenses to readers enabling them to view the FlipBook.
•   DRM Server stores FlipBook licenses, FlipBook rights and Subscription information.

FlipBook Publishing workflow with DRM Server

Publisher
Step 1:   Publisher creates the FlipBook and generates a corresponding FlipBook license with FlipViewer® Xpress Creator.

Step 2:   Publisher registers the generated FlipBook license with DRM Server through the FlipViewer® Xpress Creator. Publisher then go to the FlipBook Registration and Management Module of the DRM Server to create reader's Subscription ID and assign FlipBook rights to him. This information is stored in the DRM Server's database.

Step 3:   Publisher uploads the FlipBook onto a website. It is ready to be viewed by reader. Publisher communicates the URL of the FlipBook and the created Subscription ID to reader through email or other communication means.

Reader
Step 4:   When the reader receives the URL of the FlipBook and tries to open it, he will be prompted to enter the Subscription ID immediately.

a) After the Subscription ID is entered, FlipViewer® Xpress will automatically send it together with the FlipBook information to the DRM Server for authentication.

b) DRM Server authenticates the received Subscription ID and FlipBook information with those stored in its database.

c) If everything checks out, DRM Server will retrieve the FlipBook access rights which have been assigned to the reader earlier by the publisher. DRM Server sends the "OK" signal and the FlipBook rights in the form of reader license to FlipViewer® Xpress.

Step 5:   FlipViewer® Xpress will then allow the reader to open the FlipBook to view and enforce those assigned reader's FlipBook rights on behalf of publisher.

Note: Reader with a Subcription ID can only view the FlipBook on a restricted number of PCs according to the rights assigned to him by the publisher.

Features

FlipBook rights supported
DRM Server provides a list of FlipBook rights for publisher to manage a reader's access to the created FlipBook:
•   Expiry Date: Publisher can determine the expiry date of the FlipBook.
•   Zoom: Publisher can determine whether a reader can enlarge pages for the comfort of reading.
•   Print: Publisher can determine whether a reader can print the contents of the FlipBook.
•   Subscription Period: Publisher can configure different subscription periods for different readers to view the FlipBook.
•   Access Control: Publisher can restrict the number of PCs a reader can view the FlipBook on.

Reader authentication to prevent unauthorized access of FlipBook
Publisher can specify Subscription ID list for each FlipBook. He can also decide how many machines a reader can view the FlipBook from. For the strictest authentication, publisher can specify that readers must always be authenticated before they can view the FlipBook. By default, readers will only be authenticated once during the time when the FlipBook is first opened.

Covers both online and offline FlipBooks
The DRM protection covers for both online and offline FlipBook viewing.
